150 Tremors in One Week, Raising Concerns About Volcanic Activity

A series of earthquakes has struck the Campi Flegrei super volcano near Naples, Italy, prompting evacuations and school closures in the affected area. The swarm of 150 quakes in just one week has raised concerns among geologists and residents alike, as it could signal increased volcanic activity.

The largest earthquake of the swarm was a magnitude 4.4, which struck on Monday evening. While no injuries or major property damage have been reported, the earthquakes have caused significant disruptions to daily life.

The Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV) is closely monitoring the situation and has issued a warning that further earthquakes could occur in the coming days. Residents have been urged to remain alert and follow the instructions of local authorities.

The Campi Flegrei volcano is one of the most active in Europe. It last erupted in 1538, and geologists believe that it could erupt again within the next 30 years. The current swarm of earthquakes is a reminder that the volcano remains a serious threat to Naples and its surrounding population.
